ART EXHIBITION CURATED By Barbara Davis Gallery

HIDDEN FORCES

Ruth Shouval, Steven Steinman, and Vargas-Suarez Universal

Through distinct approaches to abstraction, the artists explore the unseen systems that shape human experience—rhythm, memory, gravity, atmosphere, sensation, and time. Moving between structure and improvisation, precision and instability, Hidden Forces considers abstraction not as escape from reality, but as a way of navigating an increasingly uncertain and expansive world.

Within this layered setting, the exhibition becomes an immersive encounter with forces both physical and emotional. Shouval’s works destabilize geometric forms into fragile systems of memory and balance. Steinman’s textured paintings pulse with rhythm, color, and material resonance, embracing spontaneity and emotional intensity. Vargas-Suarez Universal transforms scientific and cosmic structures into radiant abstractions that evoke celestial motion, technological systems, and humanity’s search for orientation within the unknown.

Together, Hidden Forces proposes abstraction as a field of perception—one that allows us to sense the invisible tensions connecting body, environment, and universe. The exhibition reflects Houston itself: a city shaped by reinvention, experimentation, and the continual layering of histories, cultures, and imagined futures.

Exhibition Dates - June 2026 - September 2026
